Guy Day! I took off work and planned to spend the day with Ryan, and we had a good time together today! Mirjan, Ryan, and Emma met me at the car dealership around 7:45am, and we went to eat breakfast together. Ryan sat on the guy side with me, and he ate a full plate of eggs. Emma ate everything that came her way. We were just about the only ones in the restaurant and the service was quick.
Then Mirjan dropped Ryan and I off at the dealership, and my car was ready. So, the guy part of "guy day" could really start. We headed over to the putt putt place, and Ryan was excited. He was going from hole to hole and not slowing down. He would tell me where the hole was and what I needed to do for each hole. "Come on, Dad." "Hurry up, Dad." We had fun, and according to him, he won.
After putt putt, we headed over to the bowling alley. He got his shoes and ball and was ready to go. We both got warmed up during the first game, and we starting putting on a show during the second game. He started out with a spare, and I started out with a strike. Through the first four frames, I had three strikes, and ended up with 6 for the game. I could have possibly had another one, but after my strike in the 10th, Ryan thought it was his turn and bowled a gutter. He ended up bowling a ninety something, and I was in the 170-180 range. We haven't gone bowling in a really long time, and we had a blast. I taught him the double-boody shake, the shock-n-awe, the wind-up, the zapper, and a few others. At the end, he was doing them all before he would bowl. Fun stuff!
Here was the start of our good game.
After that, we stopped at McDonald's and ate a late lunch. He wanted nuggets and a cinnamon roll. He swallowed the cinnamon roll in about 1 minute (another thing that he will eat...yeah!). We ate and talked for a while, which was nice.
We then went to Dick's and checked out everything. I don't remember sports stuff being that expensive, but wow! The first thing he picked up and wanted was a $300+ baseball bat....Nope! The baseball section, fishing section, and bike section received most of our attention. We made it around the entire store and ended up getting a $9 sky ball that can bounce 75 feet. Ryan's memory is frightening at times. I remember reading him little books, and he would remember it, word for word, and then read it himself. When we got the ball, he recited the commercial and told me everything that you can do with it. Amazing since the tv isn't on that much for them.
We headed home and Mirjan brought Davianna home from school. One of her friends came over to play and she, Davianna, and Ryan played until dinner time.
Good day!
Father, thank you for blessing me with the time to spend with Ryan today. Thank you for his smiles and excitement, his pure joy, and the chance to completely forget about the cancer for a while. I am grateful for this day! I ask that you continue to strengthen his body and heal his little body. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
