63 days? Really? Wow. I'm not sure if it feels like time has flown by or this has been part of our life for a long time. It has been an emotional journey so far, and I realize that I have enjoyed the little things much more. It's not like I didn't before, but I recognize those special times as they are happening and a good feeling flows over me and I'm thankful.
Ryan goes for another treatment tomorrow, and I pray that the treatment is safe and effective. This has been a really good week for him, and I also pray that his good spirits and health continues. He is still a little moody and times and says things that just breaks our hearts, but then he gets some food or rest and he is the sweetest and loving little boy. Tonight, his prayer must have been five minutes long and was beautiful. He doesn't know how much his prayers impact me, which I am thankful for. My son the teacher. He got up from bed a while ago, walked out of his room, said, "Hello. I love you," and then he went back to sleep.
My mother sent this to me this week, and it hit home because I truly believe that God is at work during Ryan's journey.
When Your Hut's on Fire
The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him. Every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming.
Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect himself from the elements, and to store his few possessions.
One day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, with smoke rolling up to the sky. He felt the worst had happened, and everything was lost.
He was stunned with disbelief, grief, and anger. He cried out, "God! How could you do this to me?" Early the next day, he was awakened by the sound of a ship approaching the island!
It had come to rescue him! "How did you know I was here?" asked the weary man of his rescuers. "We saw your smoke signal," they replied.
Moral of the Story:
It's easy to get discouraged when things are going bad or things have caused undue stress, but we shouldn't lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of our pain, suffering, or stress. Remember that the next time your little hut seems to be burning to the ground, it just may be a smoke signal that summons the Grace of God.

Father, thank you for Ryan's health and good spirits for the past week! I ask that you give him courage to face the needle tomorrow, and let him know that you are with him, will keep him safe, and this is part of your healing process. I am amazed at times at how spiritual Ryan is, and I thank you and ask that you continue to touch his heart and guide him. I thank you for guiding, strengthening, and comforting us for the past sixty-three days, and I ask that you continue to be the light for our path. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
