"Your son means so much to you. And you mean a lot to him – and his future. Cherish him."
Ryan had a good day today, and he and Davianna were playing together this evening, and there was peace! Little things set him off, and although she is trying real hard, Davianna can easily make a comment that lights the firecracker's fuse.....then BOOM! I can't wait for the time when Ryan is off the medicine and everything goes back into balance for him. I'm sure that he doesn't understand the changes (regardless of how many times we and the life care folks talk about it) that his body is experiencing and how to cope with them. I have to remind myself at times that he is just four years old, and I can't imagine how his mind is processing all of these feelings and changes at times. Every now and then we'll have a good conversation about it. The life care folks also gave us some ideas and information last week, which we'll try.
I didn't get home from work until about 7, and Mirjan had a nice cooked-from-scratch meal ready. I was surprised that they hadn't already eaten, so it was nice to sit down at the table together. That is one thing that we've been real good about. We eat together at the table every day. The conversation usually contains, "Ryan eat some more," "Emma don't throw that," "I'm not eating that (Ryan)," and "hmmm, this is good."
After dinner, Ryan and Davianna played on the computer TOGETHER. Mirjan and Emma were out in the garden. Emma has learned to supervise at a young age. She showed Mirjan how to pull up the beans and leave the weeds alone, and then sat in her chair and evaluated her mother's performance.
The kids were sweet when it was bedtime. Davianna came in and asked him if she could read him a book, which he accepted. So, Davianna read him a book, cover to cover, and Ryan listened through just about all of it. Afterward, Ryan told me that when his hair grows back, he wants to get a mohawk and color it blue. I told him that I was cool with that...and he will not forget it. So, sometime in the future, Ryan will have a blue mohawk, and I'll love it. He went to bed pretty quick, and then I went to Davianna's room (and had to kick Mirjan out --- she put Emma down in record time tonight). Davianna worked on her workbook, then we did some math, and then we did some tickling. It was a good evening.
Father, thank you for this wonderful day with the family. Thank you for Ryan's great day and his great mood. Days like this are good, and I am truly thankful. I ask that you continue to comfort his mind, strengthen his body, and heal my little boy. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
