Day Fifty

"My presence will go with you and I will give you rest."  Exodus 33:14

Chemo treatment #6 today, and Ryan did well. Thank you, Lord!  He still didn't like the needle, but Mirjan covered his eyes and the nurse went for it.  Mirjan gave him some gum in preparation of the flush, and he didn't react today like he did last time. The process seemed to go a lot quicker today than usual, but maybe that's because we are getting used to it.  However, the visit was longer because we talked to the doctor for a while, as well as the dietitian.  She gave us some good ideas about adding calories to Ryan's food (when he will eat).  Ryan's counts were below normal today, and the doctor said that they should be on the rise before next week's big chemo treatment.  We asked if there were any restrictions on Ryan going out or others coming over, and he said not to change his lifestyle too much, but to be cautious.

The whole crew got to the appointment about 15 minutes early to the appointment.  Mirjan was on top of everything today. We were in the Longhorn room today.

I left from work and met them at the doctor's office.  On the way I had an interesting 2 minute conversation with a homeless lady at a stoplight.  She talked about her son and was very proud of him.  I think just being acknowledged by someone made her feel good.  As I was leaving I told her that I would pray for her and her son.

This evening was a lot of fun.  Mirjan cooked a wonderful dinner, including seafood paella...amazing!  Will and Marielk came over to join us, and it's always nice to spend time with them.

Mirjan's mother decided to cook enough sweet beans for the entire city!  I guess once she gets started, it's hard to stop her.   (Yes, all of those containers have sweet beans in them.  Yes, our house might be dangerous for a while as a result of these beans.)

After dinner everyone played guitar hero, and some people were really awesome and others just had really awesome efforts.   Notice the two rockers on either side and their score (ON THE EASY LEVEL) in the middle.  Rock on, Will and Mirjan!!  (at least they looked good jamming on the guitar)

Father, thank you for being with Ryan today, ensuring a safe treatment, and your continued healing.  Thank you for the love of friends and family that lift his spirit and bring out big smiles.  I thank you for the strength and confidence for this difficult week for me.  I felt your presence and you gave me peace.  Please be with Mirjan's brother and keep him safe as he leaves tomorrow.  I ask that you continue to keep Ryan in your hands, keep him healthy, and continue to heal his little body.   In Jesus' name I pray.  Amen.
