Week #3 Chemotherapy Treatment Completed! One foot in front of the other......
Ryan was visibly upset when the nurse accessed his port. It was 50/50 whether he was going to take a swing at her based on the look on his face. Of course, he is too sweet of a boy to do that, and he just continued to grimace until she was done. Mirjan and I diverted his attention with the battleship game, and that helped a little bit. We had another full house in the "ice cream" room, but it was rather quick today. I was able to leave work, meet them at the appointment, and then get back to work for the rest of the day.
The CBC was normal, which is great news. The kids enjoyed the play area for a while. Davianna painted a boot on a canvas that will be auctioned off. After I left, Mirjan said that the Texas Monthly staff was there to look at the canvas....I guess they are sponsoring the event with the auction.
Tomorrow might be mohawk day. Ryan's hair was coming out in the bathtub, so we need to do it pretty quick. I talked with Ryan for about 30 minutes tonight when I put him to bed. He was really upset about having a "bolted" head, so we talked about it again. We'll read the books with him that the Life Care people provided and continue to talk about it. His eyes kept tearing up, but he didn't want to cry as he was talking about it. There were a lot of laughs in that conversation too (pink hair, 3 ears, 18 fingers, etc.). We talked about the same things we had talked about previously, and I told him that people love him for him. We then prayed about this, and he seemed to be alright with it...for tonight anyway. On Friday, I'll also ask the Life Care people to talk specifically about that with him. I then talked about it with Davianna, and she now knows that comments, etc. are off limits...no exceptions. She said she would take care of him and make sure that no one else said anything about it.
Next Friday is another big treatment, so we'll check in at the doctor's office, and then be admitted into the hospital. We'll have more people at the house, so I'll stay with him at the hospital.
We have a full house now, and the kids are really happy to spend time with the aunties. Merielk came by and had dinner tonight, which was nice. So, it was loud this evening. They are also looking forward to another visit from Nana. It's been really nice to have family and friends around the house so much lately.
Father, I thank you for all of your blessings and grace. I thank you for Ryan's health and that you have brought us through three chemo treatments safely. I ask you that you remove the worries and concerns from Ryan about his bald head. Please give me the words, examples, and resources to reassure him that he will still be normal and loved. As we go through a difficult treatment next week, I ask that you keep Ryan safe and minimize the side affects. We thank you for your love and blessings that I see every day more clearer. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
