"Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart."
Proverbs 3:3
Mohawk Day! Ryan and I got out of the house by 8 because today was the day of the mohawk. He was really excited, and he has asked for a mohawk for two years. I don't really know why we haven't let him get one before...oh, well. We got to sportsclips and Ryan told the lady that he wanted a mohawk. She looked at me seeking approval, and I said, "He's the boss." I don't think the lady had a lot of experience with mohawks, and she was asking another lady for advice. Well, I didn't want this mohawk to be a learning experiment, so I asked the other lady if she could do it..and she did. Ryan was really good throughout the haircut.
This was his first haircut from a licensed professional (his mother cuts his hair and it looks professional though). After the haircut, he got the special treatment...a shampoo and head massage. Then he got a little gel on his head and he was too cool for tv.
Ryan was walking with his cool walk back to the car and was really happy. We then went to get donuts and coffee for the hibernating people at home. What a good start to the day!
Ryan was tired in the afternoon and seemed to be out of energy. It's been nice to have the aunties in the house and just taking it easy. Besides that, he has been fine since the chemo yesterday. He kept asking everyone if the back of his mohawk still looked cool. When I put him to bed, he wanted me to comb his mohawk. We laughed a lot tonight when I put him to bed, and he said several times that I was a crazy, funny dad. It was good to seem him laugh hard like that. We talked about 'bolted' heads again tonight, and he was doing better. I think that the more we talk about it, it will slowly become a non-issue. I pointed out other people this morning that had 'bolted' heads, and he said that they didn't look funny. One foot in front of the other....
Father, thank you for Ryan's "Mohawk Day" and the excitement and joy that captured his focus today. I am grateful that we have now made it through three treatments with minimal side affects. Thank you, Lord!! Thank you for our loving family who have changed their schedules to be with us and bring so much love into the house. Lord, you are doing wonderful things, and I am grateful. This is a time when people and things can go in many different directions, and I thank you with all of my heart that we are getting closer to you and to each other. Please continue to provide guidance and strength to Mirjan and I, and continue to heal my little boy. Amen.
